As of 2023, there are an estimated 35 million digital nomads worldwide, reflecting a significant and growing trend in the global workforce.

U.S. Digital Nomads

In the United States alone, the number of digital nomads increased to approximately 16.9 million in 2022, a 9% increase from 2021.

Age Demographics

The majority of digital nomads are between 25 and 44 years old, with 34% falling in the 25-34 age range and 29% in the 35-44 age range.

Income Levels

On average, digital nomads earn between $50,000 and $100,000 per year, with some earning significantly more depending on their field and level of expertise.

Gender Distribution

The gender distribution among digital nomads is fairly balanced, with approximately 52% identifying as male and 48% identifying as female.

Preferred Destinations

Popular destinations include Thailand, Indonesia (particularly Bali), Portugal, Mexico, and Colombia, with cities like Chiang Mai, Bali, Lisbon, Mexico City, and Medellin being top choices.

Work Arrangements

About 36% of digital nomads are freelancers, 33% are remote employees, 21% are entrepreneurs, and 10% are a mix of various work arrangements.

Education Levels

A significant portion of digital nomads hold higher education degrees, with over 60% having a bachelor's degree or higher.

Longevity

Around 61% of digital nomads have been living the nomadic lifestyle for more than a year, indicating that many individuals are finding long-term satisfaction in this way of life.
